In a recent post we discussed Senate Bill 311, which proposes to increase liability caps on public agencies. Well, the Oregon Senate approved the bill, and now it will head to the House for a vote.
Back in August 2008, a small plane crashed into a house in the coastal town of Gearhart, killing five people (two in the plane and three in the house) and severely injuring several others. The people in the house were two vacationing families. It was a tragic accident. Now a lawsuit has been filed. Named in the suit are the dead pilot’s employer, his estate, and the owners of the rental home that was destroyed in the crash. Why are the owners of the vacation home being sued? Because they failed “to ensure that all bedroom and second floor windows opened.” The likelihood of a child opening a second-story window and falling out is probably a bit higher than the need to escape from a second-story window because a plane has crashed into the house, but what can one do? Everyone needs someone to blame.
If you couldn’t guess from all the sneezing and hacking, flu season is here, and it’s a bit more severe than was anticipated. It’s not too late to get a flu shot, and it’s high recommended by the Oregon Department of Human Services Public Health Division. An easy way to get your flu shot is to visit your local Safeway pharmacy, where they can administer the vaccine on site. You might want to give them a call first, though, as some stores have run out of the vaccine.
