Put the pedal to the metal
You may have heard about the recall involving rubber floor mats issued by Toyota Motor Corp.
Some drivers of Toyotas were experiencing sudden and unintended acceleration. More than a dozen people died and more than 100 complaints filed.
Toyota believed the problem was caused by the Toyota-issue floor mats getting stuck between the gas pedal and the driver’s foot, but now Toyota is planning to alter the gas pedal and install new brake systems on the recalled vehicles.
There are some 3.8 million vehicles involved in the recall, and they include 2010 Toyota Avalons and Camrys and Lexuses from 2007 through 2010.
The repairs will begin in January of 2010, but for now Toyota recommends removing the driver’s side floor mats of recalled vehicles.
