Just the fax
I’m sure all of us have been pestered by telemarketers, but fax marketers? According to this article in the December 15, 2008, edition of the IndyStar, the state of Indiana just sued Envarion Corp., alleging that the Texas-based company violated Indiana’s no-fax law, a two-year-old law that bans unsolicited faxes. Envarion allegedly sent thousands of junk faxes to Indianans. In fact, the state attorney general’s office fielded more than 1,800 complaints about the unwanted faxes. Indiana’s law states the company could be fined up to $1,500 per violation, which would total more than $2.7 million.
Since Indiana’s no-fax law has been in place, nearly 370 companies have been held in check and strongly encouraged to follow the new regulations. The attorney general’s office has also filed lawsuits against 18 other violators.
