Jury Awards Money For Wrong Prescription
A Florida jury awarded $25.8 million to the family of a cancer patient who was given a wrong prescription at Walgreens pharmacy. The woman, Beth Hippely, had a stroke and died several years later. She was prescribed a blood thinner, Warfarin, in 2002 to treat breast cancer. Walgreens pharmacy dispensed 10 times the dosage her doctor ordered.
Apparently, a young pharmacy tech, with little training, misfilled the prescription.
Our firm has handled several cases involving dispensing errors made by pharmacies including errors that have led to death.
